University of Maysan holds a scientific seminar on the effects of addiction on students’ academic performance

As part of its efforts to shed light on the challenges facing university students

The College of Agriculture at the University of Maysan held a scientific seminar to discuss the effects of addiction on the academic performance of university students

The seminar, which was attended by teaching and functional staff and students, addressed the effects of addiction in its various forms, such as addiction to drugs, technology, cigarettes and alcohol, on students’ academic achievement and mental health.

During the seminar, (M. M. Hazem Zahraw) reviewed recent studies linking addiction to deteriorating academic performance, noting that students who suffer from addiction often face difficulties in concentrating and suffer from frequent absences and poor academic achievement. They also discussed the psychological effects associated with addiction, such as anxiety, depression and low self-confidence.

The seminar concluded with recommendations that include awareness and treatment programs to support students and provide them with the necessary guidance to overcome the challenges of addiction, while emphasizing the importance of the role of educational institutions in guiding young people and protecting them from falling into the cycle of addiction.
