{"id":16994,"date":"2025-10-08T11:16:33","date_gmt":"2025-10-08T08:16:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/uomisan.edu.iq\/eng\/ar\/?p=16994"},"modified":"2025-10-08T11:17:13","modified_gmt":"2025-10-08T08:17:13","slug":"a-lecturer-at-the-faculty-of-engineering-publishes-scientific-research-in-a-reputable-international-journal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/uomisan.edu.iq\/eng\/ar\/en\/blog\/archives\/16994","title":{"rendered":"A lecturer at the Faculty of Engineering publishes scientific research in a reputable international journal"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong>Ali Abdul Zahra Ali<\/strong>, a lecturer in the Department of Chemical Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering \u2013 University of Maysan, published a joint scientific research paper with Turkish scholar <strong>Sukru Aslan<\/strong>, under the title: <em>\u201cImproving the Energy Balance Between Microwave Pretreatment and Anaerobic Digestion with Concentrated Bias.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The research was published in the international journal <strong>Bioresources and Bioprocessing<\/strong>, which has an impact factor of <strong>5.1<\/strong> and is ranked in the <strong>first quartile (Q1)<\/strong> within the <strong>Scopus<\/strong> and <strong>Clarivate<\/strong> databases. The journal is issued by the prestigious publishing house <strong>Springer<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-left\">Content and Results of the Study<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The laboratory study demonstrated that combining the <strong>centrifugation process<\/strong>\u2014used to increase the solids content of sludge\u2014with <strong>microwave treatment<\/strong> (at 90\u00b0C, a heating rate of 2\u00b0C\/min, and a retention time of 5 minutes) prior to the <strong>anaerobic digestion process<\/strong>, resulted in remarkable improvements in energy recovery in the form of <strong>methane (CH\u2084)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The study found that <strong>organic solubility doubled significantly<\/strong>, as the concentrations of <strong>proteins and dissolved sugars<\/strong> increased by <strong>10 to 22 times<\/strong>, which led to an approximate <strong>22% increase in methane production<\/strong> compared to untreated sludge. Additionally, the dual approach <strong>reduced electricity consumption<\/strong> during microwave processing by about <strong>one-third<\/strong>, thereby improving the overall <strong>energy balance<\/strong> and <strong>system efficiency<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The results indicated that the <strong>highest methane yield<\/strong> was achieved when using concentrated and pretreated sludge. The <strong>Transference model<\/strong> also exhibited high predictive accuracy for gas production compared to other models. These findings highlight a promising pathway toward making <strong>sludge treatment more environmentally and economically sustainable<\/strong>, while paving the way for future research aimed at achieving <strong>net-positive bioenergy production<\/strong> without dependence on external electrical sources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\ud83d\udd17 <strong>Research Link:<\/strong><br><a
