{"id":19409,"date":"2026-02-24T10:54:56","date_gmt":"2026-02-24T07:54:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/uomisan.edu.iq\/eng\/ar\/?p=19409"},"modified":"2026-02-24T10:54:58","modified_gmt":"2026-02-24T07:54:58","slug":"engineering-faculty-organizes-a-scientific-workshop-on-nanotechnology-in-treating-organic-pollutants-from-water","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/uomisan.edu.iq\/eng\/ar\/en\/blog\/archives\/19409","title":{"rendered":"Engineering Faculty Organizes a Scientific Workshop on Nanotechnology in Treating Organic Pollutants from Water"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Under the patronage of the President of Maysan University, <strong>Professor Adel Mane&#8217; Dakhil<\/strong>, and under the supervision of the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, <strong>Professor Abbas Oda Dawood<\/strong>, the Continuing Education Unit, in cooperation with the Department of Chemical Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering, organized a specialized workshop entitled <strong>\u201cAdvanced Nanotechnology and Its Role in Removing Organic Pollutants from Water Using Photocatalysis.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The workshop was delivered by <strong>Professor Hanan Hashem Abdel<\/strong> and aimed to introduce advanced nanotechnology concepts, highlight the pivotal role of nanomaterials in removing organic pollutants from water through photocatalytic techniques, and explain the unique physicochemical properties that grant these materials high efficiency in environmental and engineering applications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The workshop program covered several scientific themes. <em>The first theme <\/em>presented a comprehensive introduction to nanotechnology and the fundamental properties of nanomaterials. <em>The second theme <\/em>addressed the classifications of nanomaterials and their principal manufacturing methods. <em>The third theme<\/em> focused on the operational mechanism of photocatalysts and the key technical challenges associated with their application. <em>The fourth theme<\/em> examined strategies for enhancing catalyst performance through structural modification, surface treatment, and the formation of heterojunctions, thereby improving efficiency and reducing electron\u2013hole recombination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p dir=\"ltr\">In addition, the workshop included a detailed presentation on characterization techniques used to diagnose nanomaterials and evaluate their efficiency in removing dye pollutants, which are considered among the most hazardous organic contaminants due to their toxic effects on humans and living organisms. Under optimal conditions, removal efficiencies may reach up to 100%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The workshop concluded by emphasizing the proven effectiveness of nanomaterials in water treatment applications and underscoring the importance of advancing these technologies to support modern environmental and engineering practices, promote sustainability, and preserve vital water
