The work of the General Conference at its sixty-seventh session of the International Atomic Energy Agency began in the Austrian capital, Vienna, for the period from September 25 to 29, 2023, in the presence of officials and representatives of the Agency’s member states to discuss a group of topics on the agenda.
The delegation of the Republic of Iraq was headed by the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research and Head of the Atomic Energy Commission, Dr. Naim Al-Aboudi, who affirmed in his official speech Iraq’s right to the safe and peaceful use of nuclear technologies and to employ them positively in developing the economic and agricultural environment and strengthening its projects, noting the achievement of important national legislation and laws in this field and praising the effort. At the same time, the efforts made by the experts of the Atomic Energy Commission in removing radioactive contamination and establishing the required cooperation with the International Energy Agency in implementing joint projects.
Over the course of its days, which extend until the twenty-ninth of September, the conference will discuss a number of topics related to the use of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes in the medical, industrial, agricultural and energy fields, while the participating countries will present their experiences in this field and the path of implementing the International Agency’s policies. The Iraqi delegation will present a working paper on work climates and indicators. Achieved in this field, challenges and ambitions in the use of peaceful atomic energy.
The official delegation of Iraq, headed by the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Naeem Al-Aboudi, includes a number of experts and coordinators of executive and supervisory institutions, including the Ministry of Environment, the Atomic Energy Authority, and the Ministry of Health.
