University of Misan holds a practical lecture on measuring blood criteria
The Faculty of Agriculture at University of Misan held a practical lecture on measuring blood criteria with the participation of a number of students, taking into account the preventive procedures.
The laboratory lecture delivered by Dr. Zainab Sabeeh Hassan included how to take blood samples and to examine some important physiological blood criteria and readings.
The lecture dealt with identifying the importance of testing hemoglobin Hb, using a special kit (Sahli device) and examining the size of compacted cells (PCV). Students were introduced to some conditions that cause an increase or decrease in this value, such as anemia, nutritional deficiencies, and polycythemia.
The lecture also dealt with examining the Bleeding time, which is the time between the cut of the skin and the automatic cessation of bleeding, which is the normal rate of 2-5 minutes.
The students were also introduced to the importance of this reading and the problems of bleeding because of its importance before any emergency occurs. The clotting time was examined, which is the time between the blood entering the capillary tube and the fibrin strings being formed and it is one of the important tests to find out clotting problems such as genetic hemorrhagic diseases which is life threatening.
