A seminar at the University of Misan about the horror in the story of the Black Cat The Department of English / College of Education at the University of Misan held a seminar on the horror style in the story of the Black Cat of the American writer Alan Edgar Poe ((The Gothic Style in The Black Cat by Allan Edger Poe)), with the participation of a number of lecturers and students of the second year on Thursday 16/5/2019. The seminar included a lecture presented by Lect. Afrah Abdul Jabbar Abdul Sahib, through which she defined the style of horror and ambiguity in the story of the Black Cat of the American writer Alan Edgar Poe and literary analysis of the story, using illustrations to explain the story plot and display the symbols of horror used by the writer in his horror stories, especially the Black Cat. “Agar Allen Poe” is an American poet and writer. He was one of the greatest writers in the world for the period (1809-1849) and was the spiritual father of horror literature in the world. He is best known for short stories and literary criticism, and highlights in each writing points of his anxiety and supernatural talents that formed his creative contrasting personality. He was known in his generation as ((the cursed poet)). He was credited with inventing horror literature and black romance, a literary genre, where mystery, evil and darkness blended together. He knew that his life was a continuous misery, abandoned by his father and the death of his mother in his childhood and adopted by another family, his alcohol and drug addiction after the death of his wife led to his early death at the age of forty The idea or style of terror appeared in the eighteenth century in Britain, with special symbols and goals in this literature changed the world over time. The seminar also tackled the methods and symbols used in (horror literature), which included dark places such as palaces, catacombs and prisons as well as ghosts. The writer used dark colors such as red and black as well as the use of evil eyes and shadow or imagination. The animals used in the story also occupy a role in horror such as black cat and crow because they always they have always been associated in the minds of the public ghosts or doom, suspicion , the work of demonization , magic and legends about ill-fated, used by the writer to clarify the idea of the existence of paranormal and evil spirits. Finally, the seminar explained that evil is a natural instinct in the composition of the human deny and restrain, but the human, due to being surrounded by psychological and environmental factors filled with wars and conflicts, has become violent. Not content with the crime, the writer also hurt innocent animals.
