The University of Misan holds a scientific symposium on The Culture of Iraq in National and International Literature The Department of English in the College of Education – University of Misan holds scientific symposium on ((The Culture of Iraq in National and International Literature)) with the participation of international and local faculty members and researchers: 1. Prof. Dr. Elena Shelestyuk / Chelyabinsk State University/ Russia. Video lecture via Skype 2. Lect. Nidal Mahood / University of Misan / College of Education. 3. Lect. Afrah Abdul Jabbar Abdul Saheb / University of Misan / College of Education. 4. Lect. Raghad Shaker Dair/ University of Misan / College of Education. The symposium included a lecture by Dr. Ala’ Dhafer Amer in which she explained that the culture and heritage of Iraq has been addressed in several literary works by Iraqi immigrant writers as well as writers from other foreign countries such as the United States of America and the United Kingdom. It also entails a video in English embodies the culture of Iraq presented with commentary by Asst. lect. Ahmed Hassan Mosa. The symposium dealt with the embodiment of the culture and people of Iraq in Russian literature by touching on some prose texts written about the history and civilizations of Iraq. It also displayed a profile of the Iraqi leader in romantic poetry through the poem Sennacherib by the British poet Byron. There was a reference to the impact of the tales of thousand and one nights in European drama through the story of Abu Casem’s Slpippers. Further, it shed lights on the concept of life and death in Iraq through two novels: “TASHARI” AND “THE AMERICAN GRANDDAUGHTER” by IN INAAM KACHACH
