A master’s thesis at the University of Misan discussed the role of the religious, political, intellectual and social authority in Iraq between 2003-1979
In the Department of History / College of Education / University of Misan, a master’s thesis, which is libelled (The Role Of The Religious, Political, Intellectual And Social Reference In Iraq Between The Years 1979 – 2003), was discussed. Submitted by a graduate student (Ali Dalil Shanawa Al-Kaabi) and under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Saleh Muhammad Hatim.
This thesis highlighted on the role of this religious institution in the most prominent stations in Iraq’s Modern History. And its position on the Iraq-Iran war of 1988-1980, as well as its position on the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait in 1990, the resulting campaign of the international coalition forces in 1991 to liberate Kuwait, the role of the reference in sponsoring, directing the uprising of the Iraqi people in March 1991, and what followed, from the events that followed until the fall of the regime in 2003. And to show the role of the religious authority in Iraq in the mentioned period. It was necessary for the study to present the political, intellectual and social aspect in the mentioned period.
The study contained: an introduction and four chapters. The first chapter is an introductory chapter. It dealt with the historical background of the religious authority in contemporary Iraq until 1979. The second chapter shed light on the political role of the reference between the years 1979 – 2003. The third chapter discussed the intellectual role of the religious reference, and the most important products, projects and intellectual theses It has during the mentioned period. The fourth chapter deals with the social role of religious reference, and the study sheds light on the most important projects and social institutions for religious reference, and mentioned the mechanisms of reference in preserving religious rituals.
