A master thesis at Misan University/College of Education/Arabic Department discusses (The Discernment in Pre-Islamic Poetry)

     At Misan University/College of Education/Arabic Department, a master thesis entitled (The Discernment in Pre-Islamic Poetry) has been discussed as a study in content and artistic texture. It presented by post-graduate student (Maysoon Jihef Abdul Kareem) under supervision of (Asst Prof. Jabbar Abbas Al-Lami, Ph.D).

     This study dealt pre-Islamic poetry, a text that hold the feelings and values of an entire nation for a long time. This research evokes the potential of those feelings and values. Therefore, it was a study of Arabic values and morals from the texts of poetry was essential for those who seek reveal the contents and dimensions of these values.

     This study consist of abstract and three chapters. In abstract there is a clear explanation to discernment concept in language and idiom.

Chapter one considered the implicit relationship of moral values with the value of Discernment. At the beginning of this chapter, there was an approach about pre-Islamic poetry and the value’s nature.  Then, there is signaled out each value with an independent point that shows its relationship with the value of discernment, then studied the value of generosity, patience, bravery, devotion, chastity, justice, and wisdom.

Second chapter is concerned with the contents of discernment. It falls in three section.  First one examined the content of discernment as being able and empowered. The second section met the content of discernment as a weakness. The third section show dimensions of the discernment to variety  purposes.

      Third chapter devoted to technical aspect. It has three section. The first one involve discernment’s contents through characteristics of poetic language. The second section studied the effectiveness of the poetic image in showing discernment’s contents. The third section illustrate the effectiveness of rhythm in conveying discernment’s contents.
