The Faculty of Engineering organizes a workshop on the risks associated with drugs, in collaboration with the Directorate of Drug Control and Psychotropic Substances in Maysan Governorate.

Under the patronage of the university’s chancellor, Professor Dr. Adel Man’e Dakhil, and under the supervision of the Engineering Faculty’s Head, Professor Dr. Abbas Oda Dawood, the Faculty of Engineering held a workshop about “Drug Risks” on June 10th, 2024, at 10 a.m. The workshop featured presentations by Lecturer Mr. Mohamed Tahir Abd El-Abbas, Director of the Division of Relations and Information, and Lecturer Mr. Haider Abbas Abdel Karim, Assistant Director of the Department of Drug Control and Psychotropic Substances of Maysan Governorate. This event was organized in collaboration with the Continuing Studies Unit and the Women’s Affairs Unit from the Faculty of Engineering.

The workshop addressed several issues related to the dangers of drugs, their negative effects on individuals and society, and the causes of their spread among adolescents, school students, and university students. The lecturers emphasized the importance of raising awareness about the risks of drug abuse, early diagnosis of affected individuals, and informing specialized authorities to prevent its spread in the university environment.

Dr. Abbas Oda, attended the workshop, which was well-received by faculty members and staff. He commended the discussions held and emphasized the need for such activities in the upcoming academic year, encouraging student participation. The workshop concluded with the Head of the faculty presenting a plaque of appreciation to the lecturers in recognition of their significant efforts in raising awareness about this critical issue and highlighting the importance of ongoing coordination with relevant authorities to mitigate drug-related dangers in the university environment.
