Professor Ahmed Al-Sharaa Chairs a Master’s Thesis Defense Committee on Improving Energy Efficiency in Buildings

Professor Ahmed Kazem Mohammed, a faculty member in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering – University of Maysan, chaired a Master’s thesis defense committee at the Basra Engineering Technical College / Southern Technical University. The thesis was entitled “Improving Energy Performance in Nearly Zero-Energy Buildings” and was submitted by postgraduate student Hawraa Abdulilah Habib as part of the Master of Science program in Thermal Mechanical Engineering Technologies.

The defense was attended by the President of Southern Technical University, Professor Adnan Abdullah Atiq, the Dean of Basra Engineering Technical College, Assistant Professor Dr. Nawras Jameel Jassim, along with a distinguished group of faculty members and researchers.

The thesis defense committee consisted of:

  • Professor Ahmed Kazem Mohammed – University of Maysan / Faculty of Engineering – Chair.
  • Assistant Professor Duna Tariq Yaseen – Southern Technical University / Polytechnic College of Engineering – Basra – Member.
  • Professor Rand Abdul Sattar Abd – Southern Technical University / Engineering Technical College – Basra – Member.
  • Assistant Professor Ali Latif Taresh – Southern Technical University / Polytechnic College – Al-Qurna – Member and Supervisor.
  • Assistant Professor Ahmed Hussein Nasser – Southern Technical University / Engineering Technical College – Basra – Member and Supervisor.

The thesis examined ways to improve energy efficiency in nearly zero-energy buildings by studying and analyzing the factors affecting building energy performance and evaluating methods and technologies that contribute to improving energy efficiency and reducing consumption. The study supports current trends in sustainability and energy efficiency within the construction sector.

The defense featured an extensive scientific discussion of the research methodology and the findings reached by the study. The researcher presented the main aspects and results of her thesis and responded to questions and inquiries from the committee members, who discussed the scientific and practical aspects of the research and its significance in developing engineering solutions that contribute to rationalizing energy consumption in buildings.

At the conclusion of the defense, the committee decided to award the student a Master’s degree with a Very Good grade, in recognition of her scientific and research efforts and the specialized study she presented in the field of energy efficiency and its engineering applications.

The participation of faculty members from the Faculty of Engineering – University of Maysan in scientific thesis defense committees at Iraqi universities comes within the framework of strengthening academic cooperation and exchanging scientific and research expertise among university institutions, contributing to the advancement of postgraduate studies and the development of scientific and research standards.
