Under the patronage of Professor Adel Man’e Dakhil, President of Maysan University, and under the supervision of Professor Abbas Oda Dawood, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, the Women’s Affairs Unit, in cooperation with the Student Activities Division, organized a celebration on the occasion of Iraqi National Day, on Monday, October 6, 2025, at ten o’clock in the morning in the Deanship of the Faculty of Engineering building.
The celebration began with the playing of the Iraqi national anthem, followed by a blessed recitation of verses from the Holy Quran by student reciter Ahmed Al-Jazaery.
Afterwards, the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Professor Abbas Oda Dawood, delivered a speech in which he expressed deep pride in this cherished national occasion, affirming that the Iraqi National Day is not merely a historical event, but a living symbol of the nation’s identity, dignity, and sovereignty—values written by the pure blood of Iraqis over successive generations.
He emphasized that Iraq has always been and will remain a cradle of civilization and a beacon of human values. True belonging to the homeland, he noted, lies in sincere work and dedication to building and preserving its dignity. He praised the resilience of the Iraqi people who, throughout history, have risen from hardship and rebuilt hope despite challenges. The Dean called on students and youth to embody patriotism through diligent study, hard work, and scientific innovation, stressing that Iraq today needs the efforts of its loyal sons—engineers, scientists, and thinkers—to advance institutions, develop infrastructure, and strengthen national progress.
Following that, Jabbar Rahim Rashid, Head of the Petroleum Engineering Department, delivered a speech in which he reviewed the historical significance of October 3, the day Iraq joined the League of Nations in 1932, marking the first international recognition of Iraq’s independence and sovereignty. He emphasized that this day recalls the sacrifices of generations who defended the country’s unity and freedom. Mr. Rashid also highlighted the role of Iraqi women, describing them as a cornerstone in the nation’s journey—presenting the martyr, the mujahid, the teacher, and the scholar—and embodying patience, faith, and devotion throughout all stages of Iraq’s history.
The event also featured the screening of a documentary film showcasing scenes from Baghdad and various Iraqi governorates from 1918 to 2025, reflecting Iraq’s rich cultural, social, and historical diversity and its continuous efforts in nation-building and overcoming challenges.
The celebration concluded with the distribution of the Iraqi flag to the attendees, in an atmosphere filled with pride, loyalty, and belonging. The event witnessed a wide presence of professors, staff, and students who expressed their deep appreciation and pride in the eternal Iraqi identity.
