As part of its ongoing efforts to enhance scientific communication and invest in academic talent, the College of Engineering at the University of Maysan participated in the First National Conference on Investing in the Potential of Scholarship Students 2025, hosted by the University of Baghdad. The faculty delegation was led by Assistant Professor Hasaneen Abbas Ali, Assistant Dean for Scientific Affairs and Postgraduate Studies.

The conference brought together a distinguished group of Iraqi academics and scholarship recipients from various countries. Discussions centered on strategies to better utilize the expertise of returning Iraqi scholars in advancing higher education and scientific research across the country.
During the event, His Excellency the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Professor Naeem Al-Aboudi, announced a series of significant decisions aimed at supporting Iraqi scholarship students:
- Academic Promotion: The duration of study abroad will now be counted toward academic promotion.
- Contractual Flexibility: Suspension of the postponement of contractual obligations for those on sabbatical, enabling scholarship students to maintain communication with their host institutions and continue their research collaborations.
- Ministerial Committee: Establishment of a high-level ministerial committee, supervised by the Minister and composed of senior officials, to assess the number of returning scholars and facilitate their placement in academic positions within Iraqi universities.
- Postgraduate Involvement: All returning scholarship recipients will be integrated into postgraduate education through teaching, supervision, and thesis discussions. A designated supervisory body will ensure implementation.
- Strategic Appointments: Selection of scholarship graduates to serve as teaching staff in newly established Colleges of Artificial Intelligence and Excellence at the University of Baghdad.
- Communication Platform: The Department of Studies and Planning has been tasked with creating a digital platform to enable direct communication with scholarship students.
The faculty of Engineering’s participation in this national conference reflects its dedication to supporting the Ministry’s initiatives and reinforces its commitment to empowering Iraqi academic talent in service of national development and institutional progress.
