The Faculty of Engineering at the University of Maysan received a ministerial committee tasked with evaluating the material and human capabilities, and the extent to which the requirements stipulated in postgraduate study regulations are fulfilled, in preparation for establishing a master’s program in the specialization of Civil Engineering / Infrastructure within the Department of Civil Engineering.
This visit was conducted in accordance with a ministerial order issued by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research / Department of Research and Development. The committee included a group of specialized academics from leading Iraqi universities:
- Professor Sarmed Abdullah Abbas (University of Basra) – Chairman
- Assistant Lecturer Professor Anmar Faleh Dekan (University of Karbala) – Member
- Assistant Lecturer Professor Suhaib Karim Najras (University of Kufa) – Member
- Assistant Lecturer Professor Haider Majeed Aliwi (Dhi Qar University) – Member
The committee carried out a field inspection tour that covered classrooms designated for postgraduate studies, as well as specialized laboratories equipped with modern technologies aligned with the requirements of the proposed program. The review also included an assessment of the teaching staff, characterized by advanced academic ranks and precise specializations, in addition to the structured research plans prepared to support this academic track.
The Deanship of the Faculty of Engineering emphasized that launching the Civil Engineering / Infrastructure specialization represents a strategic initiative aimed at supplying the labor market with highly qualified expertise capable of managing reconstruction and sustainable development projects across Iraq, particularly in Maysan Governorate and the southern region. This interdisciplinary field integrates systems engineering with urban asset management in accordance with national and international standards.
At the conclusion of the visit, the committee commended the efforts of the University of Maysan and the Faculty of Engineering in preparing the academic and logistical requirements, expressing optimism that the proposed program will constitute a qualitative advancement in postgraduate engineering education in Iraq.
