Under the patronage of the President of Maysan University, Professor Adel Manea Dakhil, and under the supervision of the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Professor Abbas Oda Dawood, the Continuing Education Unit, in cooperation with the Department of Mechanical Engineering, organized an in-person training course entitled “Methods of Preparing Nanomaterials.”
The course was presented by Assistant Professor Ali Hussein Hassan, Assistant Professor Jassim Hassan Alak, and Lecturer Mahmoud Shaker Mahmoud, with the aim of introducing the most important techniques adopted in preparing nanomaterials, highlighting the scientific foundations of nanotechnology, and clarifying the importance of manufacturing nanomaterials in supporting advanced engineering and industrial applications.
The training program included several scientific themes. The first theme reviewed the fundamental concepts of nanotechnology for materials and its objectives, while the second addressed the most significant methods used in manufacturing nanomaterials, explaining the essential differences between these methods, the advantages of each, and the appropriate conditions for their adoption.
The third theme focused on explaining preparation through mechanical grinding, one of the most widely used techniques and a foundational method for several other technologies. The types of mills employed and the characteristics of each were presented, alongside clarification of key associated terms such as mechanical activation, cold grinding, double grinding, and grinding accompanied by annealing, with a scientific explanation of the differences between these processes.
The fourth theme provided a detailed explanation of preparation methods using solvent laser beam injection and plasma atomization, outlining the operational mechanisms and applied advantages of each technology. The course concluded with a presentation of the most important conclusions and recommendations related to nanomaterial preparation mechanisms and the best scientific practices in this advanced field.
This course forms part of a series of scientific activities that the College of Engineering – Maysan University is keen to organize in support of scientific research and to enhance academic rigor in advanced engineering disciplines.
