Under the patronage of the President of Maysan University, Professor Adel Manea Dakhil, and under the supervision of the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Professor Abbas Oda Dawood, the Continuing Education Unit at the Faculty of Engineering, in cooperation with the Department of Mechanical Engineering, organized an in-person course entitled “Study and Effects of Probabilities in Engineering Sciences and the MINITAB Program”, held on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, in the halls of the College of Engineering at 10:30 AM.
The course was presented by Assistant Lecturer Professor Jassim Hassan Alak and Assistant Lecturer Professor Ali Hussein Hassan, faculty members in the Department of Mechanical Engineering.
The course aimed to strengthen statistical concepts related to engineering sciences, highlight the importance of probability theory in interpreting and predicting results, and evaluate the accuracy of outcomes by determining error rates and assessing their acceptability according to approved scientific standards.
The program included both theoretical and applied components, focusing on the role of probabilities in analyzing engineering data and forecasting system behavior, as well as explaining methods for calculating both individual and interaction effects of variables influencing results.
Additionally, the course provided practical training on the use of MINITAB software in the design of engineering experiments (Design of Experiments – DOE), including identifying factor levels, analyzing outputs, deriving error rates, measuring result reliability, and evaluating interactions among studied variables.
This course comes as part of the ongoing efforts of the College of Engineering – Maysan University to develop the research and analytical capabilities of its students and staff, and to promote the adoption of modern statistical tools across various engineering disciplines.
