A scientific research was published by two lecturers from the Faculty of Engineering in a journal classified in the first quarter of global institutions

As part of the efforts of the Faculty of Engineering – University of Maysan to support the research process and enhance its presence in reputable international journals, two lecturers in the Department of Petroleum Engineering, Qudamah Muhammad Al-Yasiri and Mushtaq Abbas Al-Furaiji, in collaboration with researchers from Iraqi and Hungarian universities, published a scientific research entitled:

“Performance improvement of flat plate solar collector employing phase change material bags and hybrid nanofluid”

The study appeared in Results in Engineering, published by ELSEVIER, which has an impact factor of 7.9 and a citation score of 7.3, and is ranked among the first quarter (Q1) journals in both Scopus and Clarivate.

The research examined the dual effect of phase change material (PCM) and hybrid nanofluid in improving the performance of traditional flat plate solar collectors (FPSC). Two identical plates were designed, manufactured, and tested under hot summer conditions in Iraq, analyzing thermal, energy, and economic aspects.

The findings showed that incorporating paraffin bags raised the outlet temperature of the collector, with further increases achieved by adding hybrid nanofluid. Thermal energy gain increased by 26%, 47%, and 54% depending on the concentrations used, while energy efficiency improved by 9%, 31%, and 38%, respectively. Economic analyses indicated that using paraffin with 0.2% nanofluid reduced the solar collector cost recovery period by 25%, confirming the economic feasibility of the proposed technologies.

The Deanship of the Faculty of Engineering emphasized that such achievements reflect the faculty’s scientific standing and enhance the reputation of Maysan University locally and internationally, particularly as the research was conducted in cooperation with Iraqi and Hungarian scholars, giving it an international scientific dimension.
