Under the patronage of Professor Adel Manea Dakhil, President of Maysan University, and under the supervision of Professor Abbas Oda Dawood, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, the Continuing Education Unit, in cooperation with the Department of Civil Engineering, organized an in-person scientific workshop entitled: “Structural Analysis Between Vision and Tool.”
The workshop was presented by Khitam Salem Hussein, Assistant Lecturer in the Department of Civil Engineering, on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, at the College of Engineering – University of Maysan.
The workshop aimed to emphasize the importance of connecting manual structural analysis with modern specialized engineering programs such as SAP2000, highlighting the vital role of these tools in reducing time and effort and enhancing the efficiency of engineering analysis among students and researchers.
During the workshop, several scientific themes were discussed, including:
1️⃣ The first axis: A review of the causes of the collapse of structural systems and an analysis of the fundamental factors affecting structural safety.
2️⃣ The second axis: Clarifying the importance of developing geometric sense to visualize the deformation shapes of structures and to predict internal stresses and response behavior under loads.
3️⃣ The third axis: Implementing a practical manual analysis of a simple structural system and comparing its results with those obtained from the SAP2000 program to evaluate the degree of accuracy and correlation between manual and computer-based approaches.
The workshop concluded with a scientific discussion that witnessed active participation and rich interventions from the attendees, reflecting a high level of interest in the applied aspects of modern structural analysis.
The Deanship of the Faculty of Engineering praised the efforts of the lecturer and participants, stressing the importance of such workshops in developing students’ practical skills and linking theoretical foundations with applied tools that serve the field of civil engineering and contemporary design practices.
