Under the patronage of the President of Maysan University, Professor Adel Manea Dakhil, and under the supervision of the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Professor Abbas Oda Dawood, the Scientific Promotions Committee at the Faculty of Engineering organized an introductory workshop entitled “The Academic Promotion System and Its Implementation Mechanism in Iraqi Universities” on Wednesday, October 15, 2025.
The workshop was presented by Professor Ahmed Kazem Muhammad Al-Sharaa, Chairman of the Scientific Promotions Subcommittee at the Faculty, and Assistant Lecturer Nassif Jassim Hadi, Member of the Subcommittee.
The workshop featured a detailed presentation on the most important regulations and guidelines of the new scientific promotion system issued by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. It also explained the mechanisms for calculating scientific research and the requirements of both the scientific and administrative promotion files. Furthermore, the presenters discussed the main challenges faced by lecturers when preparing their promotion files.
A practical session demonstrated the use of the electronic promotion system approved by the Scientific Supervision and Evaluation Authority. The presenters outlined the steps for entering research data and personal information, uploading scientific files electronically, linking them to the central database, and monitoring the evaluation stages within the system.
The workshop emphasized the importance of adhering to the new electronic guidelines to ensure accuracy and efficiency in processing promotion requests through the unified system.
This event aimed to raise academic awareness among faculty members regarding the promotion system and equip them with the necessary skills to navigate the new electronic procedures, thereby enhancing transparency and quality in evaluating academic and research performance.
At the conclusion of the workshop, Professor Abbas Oda Dawood, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, expressed his gratitude to the lecturers and members of the Scientific Promotions Committee for their efforts in clarifying both the theoretical and practical aspects of the system. He reaffirmed the Faculty’s continued commitment to supporting activities that promote a culture of scientific research and academic development among faculty members.
