As part of its active scientific presence and keeping pace with advanced research productions, the Faculty of Engineering – University of Maysan participated in discussing a doctoral thesis specializing in refractories at the University of Technology / Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, through the participation of Professor Ahmed Al-Sharaa within the scientific discussion work. The thesis was titled:
Heat Transfer Enhancement of Different Photovoltaic Thermal (PV/T) Configuration Systems Using Mono and Hybrid Nanofluid
The thesis was presented by doctoral student Hussein Madi Hamad, a lecturer in the Department of Petroleum Engineering – College of Engineering – University of Maysan. The study addressed methods for cooling solar cells with the aim of raising the efficiency of photovoltaic panels and extending their operational life, as higher operating levels lead to a reduction in the electrical power produced and a decrease in the overall reliability of the system.
Six different cooling channel configurations were evaluated using ANSYS Fluent software, including a simple channel (reference case), a channel with baffles, and channels with fins at four different inclination angles (30°, 45°, 60°, and 90°).
The simulation included detailed modeling of heat transfer and fluid flow under specific climatic conditions, with flow rates ranging between 9–45 liters per hour. Several influential thermal and hydrodynamic parameters were analyzed, including solar radiation, heat transfer coefficient, pressure, friction coefficient, nanoparticle concentration, and fin geometry. The results showed—based on the thermal performance factor—that the inclination angle of 30° represents the optimal design, achieving an efficiency value of η = 1.59 at a flow rate of 45 l/h compared to 0.2 in the case of a simple channel, thus achieving an effective balance between enhanced heat transfer and acceptable pressure loss.
The discussion committee consisted of:
–Professor Ahmed Abdel Mohamed, Chairman
– Professor Ahmed Kazem Mohamed, Member
– Professor Wissam Abdultaie, Member
–Professor Diaa Ghanem Mutashar, Member
–Professor Ali Lafta Kaid, Member
Under the supervision of:
– Professor Star Jaber Habib
– Assistant Professor Ahmed Abdel Nabi Omran
