Under the patronage of the President of Maysan University, Professor Adel Manea Dakhil, and under the supervision of the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Professor Abbas Oda Dawood, the Continuing Education Unit at the Faculty of Engineering, in cooperation with the Department of Biomedical Engineering, organized an in-person course entitled “Using Bio-Composite Materials to Produce Industrial Limb Support and Total Hip and Knee Joints.”
The course was delivered by Lecturer, Professor Nour Kazem Fahid, a faculty member in the Department of Biomedical Engineering, and was held over three days starting from Sunday, April 19, 2026, at the College of Engineering / Department of Biomedical Engineering.
The course aimed to introduce participants to the materials used in biomedical engineering, with a focus on manufacturing techniques of biocomposite materials and their applications in prosthetic limbs and joint replacements. It covered advanced scientific topics, including the study of natural and synthetic biomaterials designed to interact with biological systems, with the objective of enhancing or replacing vital functions within the human body.
The course also explored the diverse applications of these materials, ranging from organ transplantation and medical device manufacturing to tissue regeneration and restoration, reflecting the growing importance of this field in supporting both medical and engineering innovation.
Furthermore, the course highlighted future trends in biomaterials development, emphasizing the transition toward smart materials capable of adapting to the biological environment within the human body, thereby contributing to significant advancements in healthcare technologies and modern medicine.
