The Faculty of Engineering offers an in-person course titled ”Safety and Safety Requirements in ”Engineering Laboratories and Workshops

The Faculty of Engineering conducted an in-person course titled “Safety and Safety Requirements in the Laboratories and Workshops of the Faculty of Engineering,” under the sponsorship of the faculty’s Head, Professor Dr. Abbas Oda Dawood. The course was organized in line with the directives from the University’s Presidency, which emphasizes the importance of occupational safety and risk prevention through workshops and seminars.

The Department of Mechanical Engineering, in collaboration with the Continuing Education Unit of the Engineering Faculty, hosted a three-day course. Key instructors included Assistant professor Dr. Jasim Hassan Alak, Assistant professor Dr. Ali Hussein Hassan, Assistant Engineer Mr. Ali Abdul Hussein Rusun, and Assistant Engineer Mr. Mortaza Mohamed Attya.

The course provided a detailed explanation of the safety specifications required in the Faculty’s laboratories, comparing these standards to the current conditions. The goal was to generate recommendations for improving safety and enhancing awareness of risk prevention and emergency procedures.

A practical demonstration was also included, illustrating how global safety standards can be applied to the day-to-day activities of laboratory workers. The course emphasized the importance of training programs for new employees to enhance their skills and abilities in managing potential risks that students or staff may encounter.

The course concluded with several recommendations to improve the current safety conditions in the Engineering Faculty’s laboratories, including:

  • Conducting and documenting training exercises for students working in laboratories, recording the date of training, the trainer’s name, and signatures of both the trainer and trainee.
  • Encouraging student participation by creating warning posters that highlight potential hazards in each laboratory.
  • Requiring academic departments to prepare a detailed brochure for each laboratory, listing all equipment, possible risks, operational instructions, and step-by-step procedures for conducting experiments.

The course was attended by the Head of the Engineering Faculty, and his associate for Scientific Affairs and Postgraduate Studies, Professor Dr. Hassanin, along with a group of professors, staff, and laboratory officials from the Faculty’s engineering workshops.
