Professor Dr. Ahmed Kadhim Alshara, a faculty member at the College of Engineering, University of Misan, in collaboration with Dr. Falah Assi Aboud and Engineer Hossam Hakim from the College of Engineering, University of Basrah, published a scientific research paper in the International Journal of Thermal Sciences (Q1).
The study investigated the impact of a solar chimney on a room with and without the presence of phase change material (PCM) in Basra, Iraq, both theoretically and experimentally. Numerical and theoretical analyses were conducted using the ANSYS – Fluent 2021/R2 software. Experimentally, the best results obtained from numerical simulations were used in the design and construction of the device, and data were recorded.
The research examined the effects of several factors and variables, such as the tilt angles of the solar chimney, the air gap, the addition of a PCM basin to the solar chimney with varying thicknesses, the temperature of the heat-absorbing plate, the air change rate per hour (ACH) with and without PCM, and the impact of liquid melting.
